The members of Pink Magnolias originate from Japan but found their way to the Big Easy during their career and journey. Pink Magnolias specialize in blues and funk and they are an all-female Japanese band. The ladies: Yuko “Lady Butterfly” Kido (vocal and harmonica), Mayumi “Shara” Vurzu (drums) and Keiko Kodak (piano and organ) make-up the powerhouse group. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries so the Pink Magnolias can be deemed a special act.
On June 2, 2017, the Pink Magnolias blessed the Mississippi Gulf Coast at the Almanett Hotel and Bistro for the First Friday celebration. With a jam-packed audience, the ladies were a taste of flavor and uniqueness. The Almanett Hotel and Bistro is walking distance from the beach and it is located at 1514 18th Ave. in Gulfport. The night was filled with music, laughter and all-you-can-eat catfish, shrimp and much more.
Tunes from Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and even Beyonce were featured in the act with two sections of never-ending jams. These ladies can be found in the New Orleans area; however, they are a traveling group.
